Kero-Go! 2021 Devlog

Hi! Bru here, I work mainly on code and game design for Kero-Go!

We took a break (this was a college project, and we just graduated) and just came back to development in the second half of this year.
Most of the work has been spent on improvements, mechanics, concept art and stuff that had to be done eventually, rather than new playable levels and finished sprite art.

New Mechanics

We are developing a bunch of new objects and obstacles to create our new levels with.

Here we have a rope that you can grab with your tongue and climb (no animation yet), and a bubble that will make you jump when touched.

Color Palettes

You will be able to unlock different color palettes by collecting flies. We thought this was a nice way to reward eating flies without making them feel required.

Personally I also want some of them to have more effects, such as particles or maybe change the color of the “dash” effect when you go somewhere with your tongue.

Angry variant animations >:(

We didn’t want the frog to be smiling during a forest fire :P

Other changes:

  • Movement adjustments to make it more responsive
  • Multiple save slots
  • Localization support (English and Brazilian Portuguese)
  • Customizable controls
  • Gamepad rumble
  • Better death animation
  • Plenty of bug fixes :D
  • Plenty of new bugs D:
  • You can now pet the frog

Keep in mind we didn't update the demo with these features.

Development has been slow this year for many reasons, but we are steadily progressing.

We are all doing this in our free time, and sometimes that free time can’t be spent on the game. And of course we don’t want to crunch our way through it, that’s why this year has been quieter. But things are starting to get better :)

Oh, and we hit 1500 downloads for the demo! Thanks everyone for trying out our game, it really means a lot to us to see people playing and enjoying it, thanks for the support! <3

Have a nice day, an even nicer 2022 and see you soon!
